One of the most important components of parking lot design is pavement grading. Proper grading ensures that storm water is directed off the pavement, or to an available inlet. While it is easy to assign spot elevations to a proposed design, it can be challenging to determine if that design includes areas having pavement slopes that are too flat or too steep.
Fortunately Civil 3D makes it easy to visualize every slope in a parking lot design to ensure it meets your desired requirements. By simply creating a style that colorizes surface triangulation based on slope (and then setting the ranges to meet your requirements) you can easily identify the areas of a parking lot design that may need some attention.
If you are interested, I’ve created a quick video that walks through the workflow.
