Great suggestion, Jeff. We use this workflow on both preliminary and proposed surfaces. It's especially helpful at the preliminary design phase. We create a surface based on GIS data and paste it into the project EG surface which is shared to other drawings in the project. After we receive survey data, another surface is created from that data which is then pasted into the original project EG surface. No updates to other drawings are necessary except for synchronization to the shared project EG surface. Any profiles or contour labels will update based on the updated surface definition.

This workflow also allows us to combine surface data from multiple sources such as corridors, site grading, and so on.
