On occasion, you may find it helpful to apply hatch patterns to the various elements of a corridor model. These elements may include: pavement areas, concrete, aggregate, sod, etc. Fortunately, Civil 3D can make quick work of corridor hatch creation using a Code Set Style.
Code Set Styles are assigned to corridors (among other things) and control the display of many elements, one of which are “fills”. Within a code set style, a fill (otherwise known as hatch) can be assigned to the coded links that make up a corridor model.
By associating a fill to the PAVE code for instance, Civil 3D will automatically find and hatch the area created by links having a PAVE code. Likewise, since the hatch is tied to the corridor geometry, it will update automatically whenever the design changes. In today’s installment, we’ll explore a workflow using a code set style to hatch the pavement and aggregate shoulder of a proposed corridor design.
