Have you ever wished that your models included an odometer? (Perhaps an hours meter would be a better analogy, but not quite as impactful unless you’ve driven a tractor or a forklift before. :) )
In short, would it be helpful to know how long a Civil 3D model has been open in the Civil 3D editor?
I would say Yes it is. Most importantly, it can help us understand how much time has been invested in a particular model. Either by us or by someone else.
Civil 3D contains such a tool and it is called TIME.
It can be accessed by clicking on the clock icon in the Inquiry panel of the Analyze ribbon or by just typing TIME at the command line and hitting Enter.
Using the tool, we can glean a lot of information including the date the file was created, the last time it was edited, how long it has been open in the editor… It even contains an elapsed timer (Trip Odometer) that we can use as a mechanism to help us compute time spent on a particular task or workflow.
