Creating Best Fit Profiles using Civil 3D

When designing a road reconstruction, many times the proposed profile will need to follow the existing road profile as closely as possible.  At times like this, we can use Civil 3D’s “Best Fit” tools to ensure the finished grade profile geometry tightly follows the existing conditions.

In today’s installment, we’ll look at two workflows for creating best fit profiles.  The first one creates best fit geometry along the full length of a surface profile.  The second, creates best fit geometry one segment at a time.
