It’s all about the Annotation…
When we bring GIS data into Civil 3D (or Map 3D) using the MAPIMPORT command, the GIS Data is converted into AutoCAD entities.
(i.e. Polylines representing parcels, soil boundaries… Points representing trees, drainage structures…)
This is a great thing however most of this GIS data also includes attribute information.
Sure we can toggle MAPIMPORT to bring in the attributes as Object Data however it becomes embedded in the object and not visible on a print or plot.
That is where today’s tool comes in!! To overcome this challenge, we are going to look at how to create special Map Annotation that will read this otherwise invisible Object Data and automatically generate visible/plotable Annotation. At the same time, if any of this Object Data is updated, it is possible to automatically update special Map Annotation such that it remains current.
