Because I don’t always remember what I worked on last week.
Today’s tool is really a subset of another tool we literally use every day. That tool is the OPEN command and the subset tool is Find file which is hidden under the down arrow in the upper right corner of the dialog adjacent to “Tools”.
I know, some of you are thinking… I’ve never clicked on that before.
If you haven’t, you should. :) You can do some cool stuff with those tools!
In today’s example, I use the Find File tool to quickly locate all of the files created or modified in the last few days. If you wondering why I would care about that, ask yourself if you have ever had to account for your time when working on projects. Then ask yourself if you were always disciplined enough to document that information every day.
I know I didn’t. And when it came time to complete my documentation I would struggle to go back and figure out all of the projects I had worked on over the last couple of weeks. Using this tool, I can quickly figure that out.
(Having said this, documenting your work at the end of every day is still the best option. :) )
Additionally, you can search for files created or modified within a date range. Very helpful when you know you last worked on a DWG in July but are having difficulty locating the file now your network drive.
Check out the video below to see how it works.
